Growing into my nonbinary identity is less a story of transformation, rather a story of discovery.

I'm transgender. I'm proud to be trans, my name is Samuel, I go by he/him pronouns and I'm 15 years old. But let's go back to where it all started.

From the time I was tiny, I was very active and I became a tomboy as I got older. I tolerated dresses because there was not really any choice – girls couldn’t wear pants to school until I was in 9th grade.

Growing up, I’ve always been surrounded by a family that frowns upon same sex marriage.

For me, “coming out” started from the moment I could form my own opinions. I always wanted to wear my brother's clothes and dress in more masculine presenting clothing.

From a very young age I knew I was different, but I could never put my finger on it. I was never truly happy with people seeing me as female, and I tried everything I could to hide it.
